Yellow Hair in Richard Henry Pratt 1879

On November 1, 1879, Richard Henry Pratt founded the Carlisle Indian Industrial School in, Pennsylvania, the first of many nonreservation boarding schools for Native Americans. Pratt's practice of Americanization of Native Americans by forced cultural assimilation, was later regarded as a form of cultural genocide. In his writings he described his belief that the government must "kill the Indian to save the man".
